He pointed out that Kenya’s role as an economic leader in the region is tied to its consistent endeavour to impart the spirit of enterprise to women, youth, the traditionally marginalised and persons with disability.

Despite the lack of competitive advantages in the form of valuable natural resources, President Kenyatta said the strong entrepreneurial spirit has stood the country in good stead and enabled Kenyans to fight it out in the big leagues continentally and globally.

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru said innovation and entrepreneurship by young people was critical to the country’s social-economic development.

The Cabinet Secretary challenged policy makers to come up with practical ways of harnessing ICT and integrating it in all sectors of the economy.

“Innovation is everything in our day to day life. We must encourage innovation and research,” the CS said.

US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec said the Global Entrepreneurship Summit coming up in Nairobi in July is the first in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Ambassador said the summit signalled America’s confidence in Kenya and will widen boost cordial relations between the two countries for the benefit of their respective citizens.

Dean and Head of Strathmore Business School George Njenga also addressed the gathering.
