NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 27- Anthony Lang’at is the grand winner of a Nissan Almera valued at Sh2 million in the just concluded Uchumi Supermarkets promotion.

The shopping promotion dubbed ‘Toboa Maisha na Uchumi’ started in November last year through to January this year.

“I was at work, around 11am when I was called by somebody by the name Ann from Uchumi and she informed me that I was the grand winner,” 32 year-old Lang’at who could not hide his joy explains.

Lang’at was announced the winner of the brand new car during a grand draw which held on Friday, January 16 and was presented with the car by Uchumi CEO Jonathan Ciano on Tuesday.

“At the moment I would say it was a very successful promotion because it gave us what we were looking for. That is, participation with our suppliers, our customers, and we have been doing this for the last seven years,” Ciano said during the ceremony at the Lang’ata branch.

Jemima Asiko another winner, went home with Sh500,000 while Veronica Wairimu was given Sh250,000. Others were awarded cash prizes which ranged between Sh50 to Sh100.

The three were among the hundreds of Uchumi’s shoppers who won over Sh8 million worth of prizes that included shopping vouchers, school fees, electronic goods and cash prizes.

“I would want to say thank you to my suppliers, thank you to our customers, and also thank you to my shareholders because this was also the time we were raising our capital through the Rights Issue,” Ciano added.
