Bedroom: Its more than just a bed #PropertyInsights

Your bedroom is your sanctuary, the place you go to recollect and reinvigorate yourself at the end of your day, so it should be as homely as possible. Here is a few bits and pieces and ideas to help create and spruce up your bedroom and make it as personal, comfortable and luxurious as possible. Here is a list of things that every bedroom needs.

room-1

A comfortable rug or mat.

Nothing ruins a happy morning or makes a bad one worse like stepping out of your warm bed to a cold hard floor. Do yourself a favour and Make sure that your first step out of bed is cushy and comforting. If you already have a carpet in your room but it is not enough, consider layering with a smaller rug by the bed. The softer and fluffier it is, the better for your feet.

The right amount of throw pillows.

Pillows are essential. The number of pillows should be enough so that your bed looks sumptuous and inviting when properly and neatly arranged. Depending on the size of your bed, 6 pillows should be enough to make your bed look as wonderful.

A place to sit. ( That’s not the bed)

A good spot to sit on will serve you well when you’re reading something that you can’t’ afford to fall asleep during. Having a place to sit, could be a couch long enough to fit in your room or an easy chair. This will break the monotony of just having a bed in your room.

A collection of things you love.

It does not have to be an entire collection of things but just a few pieces that will make you smile as you go along and this also adds a personal touch to your room. This is also a great way to incorporate pieces that you have acquired over the years but can’t quite figure out what to do with.

Bed linens.

Brightening up your room could be as simple as changing your linens or duvet. A bright color like red or pink should be enough to make your room look good as new especially if you are shy about having too much color in your house.

New curtains – Give your windows something new to wear.

Window treatments are easy to install and they yield dramatic results and could completely transform your room. Or you could change things up and trade your curtain boxes in for a new curtain rod.

Lighting.

Get that antique lamp or fun lampshade you have had your eyes on a for a while and that could totally change up the mood of your room. You can install strip lighting above cabinets. Also consider redirecting your existing lighting to highlight particular areas or features of your room.

Photographs – But not of the Family.

You should have as many phonographs as you wish in the other rooms of your house but it is best to keep the bedroom’s artwork less emotionally loaded. Elegant and calming photos are perfect for your bedroom and will evoke good feelings much like family photos without reminding you of specific people while you are trying to fall asleep.

A great mattress.

You could have every item on this list but your bedroom wouldn’t be complete without the perfect mattress. After all, if you are not getting enough quality sleep, you can’t fully appreciate a beautiful room. You need a mattress that keeps you cool and gives you great lumbar support, and of course one that looks great in your room. If you are hesitant to spend a lot on a new mattress, consider this: a high quality mattress should last 10-15 years. A cheap one, half that.
