NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 1 – Andrew Wachira has been appointed the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) effective October 1, 2014 following the exit of Peter Mwangi on September 30, 2014.

Wachira has over 10 years experience at the Exchange having worked as the Head of Compliance and Legal Department since 2009.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi and is an Advocate of the High Court.

The process to recruit a permanent Chief Executive Officer is underway.

Commenting on the appointment, NSE Chairman Eddy Njoroge said Wachira has been instrumental in the implementation of a number of key initiatives at the Exchange.

“His experience, leadership skills and wealth of knowledge will ensure a smooth transition for the Exchange as well as formalise the substantive recruitment of the chief executive. We are confident that he will execute this interim position commendably,” he said.

The former NSE Chief Executive Peter Mwangi heads to Old Mutual Kenya having been appointed as the Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective October 1, 2014.
