KTB scoops major tourism award, again

TOURISM-KENYANAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 11 – The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) has scooped the ‘Africa’s Leading Tourist Board’ Award at the 2014 Africa and Indian Ocean World Travel Awards.

This is the third time, in a row, that KTB has taken home the prestigious award.

KTB Managing Director Muriithi Ndegwa hailed it as a great recognition for KTB that comes at a time when the board is working to reassure the market that Kenya is safe and open for business.

KTB beat other regional marketing boards including South Africa Tourism, Nigeria Tourism Board and Tanzania Tourism Board to be crowned Africa’s Leading Tourist Board.

“We saw an incredibly rich, diverse and inspirational selection of nominees in Africa and Indian Ocean in 2014, with many top competitors fighting it out in a series of very close races. With tourism growing in importance all the time in both Africa and the Indian Ocean, it is an honour to bestow our prizes on some exceptional organisations,” said World Travel Award President Graham Cooke.

All regional winners, including KTB, will compete head to head in a final round to crown global winners. The global event will be held in Marrakesh, Morocco later in the year.

This comes as the tourism Industry in the country has been hard it by the ongoing insecurity in the country.
