FastJet said it will commence flights to Zimbabwe from its operating base in Tanzania, adding a third international destination after South Africa and Zambia.
FastJet will begin twice-weekly flights from Dar es Salaam to Harare from Aug. 5, providing the only direct scheduled service on the route, the London-based company said today in an e-mailed statement.
Founded in 2012 with the ambition of becoming the first pan-African low-cost carrier, FastJet initially flew within Tanzania before commencing flights to Johannesburg in October and later adding Zambian capital Lusaka.
EasyJet Plc founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou expanded his stake to 10 percent via a funding deal in April aimed at financing FastJet’s network expansion and possible additions to a fleet of leased Airbus Group NV A319 short-haul planes.
