NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 14 – Motorists will pay slightly higher prices for petrol, but cheaper for diesel and kerosene following the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) latest review released on Monday.

In the review a litre of super petrol goes up by Sh0.55 as Diesel and Kerosene drop by Sh1.05 and Sh0.75 per litre respectively.

In Nairobi, a litre of super petrol will sell at Sh114 .16 from Sh113.61 in March while diesel will sell at Sh103.82 from Sh104.87 in March.

Kerosene is to retail at Sh83.16 per litre from Sh83.91 in March.

The commission attributed the increase of petrol prices to the average higher cost of imported products that increased by 1.34 percent.

“The average landed cost of imported diesel decreased by 2.08 percent from $971.15 per ton in February 2014 to US$950.99 per ton in March 2014.Over the same period, the average landed cost of imported kerosene decreased by 1.35 percent to US$1014.28 per ton in February 2014 to US$ 1000.60 per ton in March 2014,” ERC said in a statement.

Motorists in Mombasa will purchase a litre of super petrol at Sh110.80, diesel at Sh100.48 and kerosene Sh80.37.

In Nakuru, customers will spend Sh114.79 on super petrol, Sh104.68 on diesel and Sh83.93.on kerosene while in Kisumu, super petrol will cost Sh116.00, diesel Sh105.89 and kerosene will sell at Sh84.95.

Eldoret motorists will buy a litre of super petrol at Sh115.93 Sh105.82 for diesel and kerosene at Sh84.96.

The Commission emphasised the need for all petroleum marketing companies and dealers not to sell petroleum products above the maximum prices.
