Speaking at meeting in Dar es Salaam Tanzania, Ambassador of Belgium in Tanzania Koenraad Adam confirmed his government’s contribution of Sh104 million to the Fund.
At the same time, Finland Ambassador to Tanzania, Sinikka Antila said his country will give a contribution of Sh233 million to the EAC regional projects and programmes.
While receiving the confirmations, the EAC Deputy Secretary General Jean Claude Nsengiyumva underscored the importance of the EAC Partnership Fund noting that the boost would support few priorities, which will yield more tangible results to impact on the lives of the East African people.
He made a commitment that the EAC Secretariat will continue strengthening the financial management of the Partnership Fund to ensure more accountability.
The Deputy Secretary General, who was accompanied by the Head of Resource Mobilisation Unit at the EAC Secretariat, Dr James Njagu, noted that the Fund had in the past supported core priorities towards integration.
These include negotiation and implementation of the Common Market Protocol, sensitisation and awareness programmes, key studies and capacity building of the EAC Secretariat.
On their part, the Ambassadors reiterated their governments’ continued commitments to the EAC integration agenda noting that the region is one of the high performing and result oriented regional economic community in the continent.
Created on September 15, 2006 the Fund’s core mandate is to support the EAC projects and programmes geared towards regional integration.
