REVIEW: The first impression of the Asus s200 notebook is the intuitive design. The aluminum top and inside cover makes the Asus S200 appear classy and chic. On the underside, the makers of Asus used rubber instead of aluminum to absorb the heat from the PC and also to reduce the metallic cold feeling on your lap. The compact design makes the Asus s200 sturdy and stable while at the same time ensuring the sleek intention. The notebook comes in five different colors giving more variety to users.
Asus’ unique proposition of a touch screen seems to be bearing fruit as they have carried over the feature from earlier versions. The screen is very responsive. If you are feeling lazy, you can use the touch notebook as a tab though it will be a bit awkward at first. This windows 8 powered notebook packs a 1,366×768 touchscreen, 11.6 inch screen making it a to-go laptop. The downside is the dull screen especially when you are not connected to a power source. But the joy of using the screen is the highly responsive touch screen and for new Windows 8 users, this Asus model could be the ideal toy to make your learning fun.
Despite its relatively slim build, the Asus S200 has enough ports to sustain an average user. Most notebooks in this category do not have HDMI so it’s a relief to see the Asus with one. You don’t have to look for alternatives when using a projector. Two USB slots on the left and one on the right plus a VGA port are sufficient for the average PC user needs.
The keyboard is well spaced so chances of hitting the wrong buttons is minimized. An additional advantage the S200 has is the wide touch pad which has over five functionalities (pinching gesture minimizes and expands pages and pictures, among other interesting features). But it takes a while to get used to the touch pad as it occasionally actions functions you did not intend especially when it goes full screen or switches between pages. But this can be attributed to Windows 8 features as well.
The S200 features exclusive SonicMaster technology with Waves MaxxAudio 3 for more powerful sound and richer bass through speakers and chambers built for bigger 14”/15” models.
But the unique selling point of the Asus S200 is the relative affordable tag price compared to similar notebooks. For $550, the Asus S200 could be yours to keep and make you feel like you have a MacBook Air at less than half the price.
Being ultra-light and extra-slim, ASUS VivoBook excels at making getting around easy!
