De Souza: I turned dilemma into opportunity

“Spencer is an amazing chef and his passion for good food has made this company to be what it is now.” she says with a lot of enthusiasm. “I can confidently say this; if you had Sh100,000 today and didn’t know what to do with the money, then food industry is definitely the place to be. Food margins are quite large.”

Some of the key qualities of an entrepreneur that has made me who I am are passion, perseverance and prayer. She says she has managed to stand strong in thick and thin and be where she is now. ‘’This would never have been possible without my parents support though.

They have played a big part in my success, and continue to.’’ she adds.

“Right now we have 27 trained members of staff,” she says smiling, “and two dogs which I love very much and they are a part of the team,” she adds on a light note.

Education and training for entrepreneurs has been singled out as a key ingredient of achieving great results in business. Having dropped out of University, De Souza has however managed to take different business and management courses at Strathmore University and with the University of South Africa.

Despite her business schedule, the young mom believes in the saying by the American business magnate Walt Disney, that ‘A man should never neglect his family for business.’ De Souza set aside her Sundays, to spend time with her seven year old son.
