Githae said they have also set aside Sh200 million in the supplementary budget to cater for free dispensary services as pledged by the President Uhuru Kenyatta within 100 days.
Githae said the allocations are included in the Supplementary Budget which is supposed be tabled in Parliament before the end of the month.
“We want to do a Supplementary Budget just to realign with the priorities because they do change. He (President Kenyatta) would like to see especially these two implemented immediately and that is why I said the technical team to look at this manifesto and cost it,” Githae said.
“Free Maternal health care, free dispensary services, can be done immediately,” he assured.
He also revealed that the free school children’s milk and the free laptop project for primary school children are also catered for in the Supplementary Budget.
The new president has pledged that the laptop project will be rolled out from January next year.
“We will go back to find about the so called “Nyayo milk.” Is it one packet per week or one per month, because we already know the number of pupils we have. For laptops, we will start with a pilot project before we incorporate it fully, because it’s a huge project,” he said.
The ministry plans to get a dealer with very fair prices or import parts of the laptops and do the assembling in the country to cut costs in an effort to ensure its full implementation.
This year’s supplementary budget is pegged at about Sh44 billion according to the outgoing Finance Minister.
President Kenyatta is expected to give a breakdown of the government’s agenda and its implementation during a historic seating of the both the Senate and the National Assembly next Tuesday.
