KTB’s booth at the bourse, which is the world’s largest travel trade fair, was ranked the second best among all the African destinations represented. Burundi won in the category, with Rwanda taking the third place in the award sponsored by the Cologne Business School.
KTB booth stood out at the fair for the use of natural materials which made it look authentic, as well as the hospitality of the team.
Visitors to the stand were treated to among other aspects the “Dawa” cocktail, making their visit to the Kenya stand memorable.
Commenting on the award, KTB’s Managing Director Muriithi Ndegwa said the design used in creating the stand was informed by the deliberate strategy taken by KTB to grow its market share in tourism through aggressive and strategic campaigns and enhanced creativity to bring out the unique product offering that Kenya offers to both the traditional and emerging markets.
“Kenya is an outstanding tourism destination though recently we have faced some challenges to do with insecurity incidents and some markets holding back to await the election. Thank fully the elections turned out very peaceful. This has prompted us to up our ante in marketing. We are honoured to note that our marketing initiatives are already being recognised”, he said.
Judges visited the 12,000 booths at the ITB and assessed them according to numerous criteria such as booth construction, information content, service quality, friendliness and special effects.
Muriithi added that in the next ITB fair, they will be targeting to achieve even higher accolades by including a new design stand.
KTB has in the recent past received other accolades in the past year including being voted the best safari destination 2013, indicating a trend setting departure in the institutions’ marketing approach.
There were a total of 42 participants from the Kenya travel trade including hoteliers, tour operators and strategic stakeholders.
