MALINDI, Kenya, Nov 29 – Regional retailer, Nakumatt Holdings, has inched closer to attaining its 40-branch network target with the opening of Nakumatt Malindi on Thursday.

As part of Nakumatt’s expansion strategy, the firm has opened the doors to its Sh300 million supermarket store, featuring a variety of energy saving retail fittings and solutions imported from Italy.

Covering a shop floor area of more than 40,000 square feet, the new Nakumatt store in the tourist resort town of Malindi is part of a pilot project to explore the viability of various energy saving solutions such as Freezers, Chillers, Air Dispersion Units and Lighting systems which are some of the notable high energy consuming elements in the retail sector.

Speaking in Malindi during the formal opening of the retailer’s 38th branch, Nakumatt Holdings Managing Director Atul Shah confirmed that plans to open other stores in Thika Town and along Thika Road are at an advanced stage.

“Life begins at 40 and for Nakumatt this saying also rings true as we are only two branches short of the magical number which we hope to attain by early February next year,” Shah explained.

“The opening of Nakumatt Malindi is a Christmas Gift for Malindi residents and also a confirmation of our corporate commitment to maintain superior environmental conservation demands through the utilisation of cutting edge energy saving solutions,” he added.

In the new branch, customers will also enjoy a range of attractive shopping offers on household goods and electronics to mark the launch of the branch.

Nakumatt Malindi is also fully stocked with a variety of more than 40,000 store keeping units to choose from ranging from fresh produce, to lifestyle products such as electronics, clothing, toys, branded foods and general products.

The Malindi branch will be the fifth Nakumatt store in the coast region.
