Kenyan ICT firm scoops VMware award

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 8 – Kenya based Seven Seas Technologies, has scooped this year’s VMware Africa Channel Partner of the Year award in recognition of the firm’s cloud computing market development efforts in the wider East Africa region.

Arising from Seven Seas Technologies recent investments in developing and delivering cloud computing solutions running on VMware platforms, the locally headquartered firm is gaining global prominence in the ICT world as a major solutions partner.

Globally, VMware is reputed as a computer virtualisation and cloud computing solutions provider serving leading global enterprises.

Speaking moments after receiving a communiqué confirming the award, Seven Seas Technologies Founder and CEO Michael Macharia said the award was a welcome affirmation for the firms growing excellence in the continent.

“All Seven Seas Technologies staff are delighted and proud at this achievement from VMware which is a further tribute to Kenya’s growing relevance as an IT excellence hub,” Macharia said.

And added: “The award also puts Kenya at a very high pedestal in the cloud computing scene in Africa and the world at large as Seven Seas Technologies competes against global names in this market.”

Cloud computing refers to an IT based technological concept that uses the internet and central remote servers to maintain data and applications. As a new generation concept, experts agree that this technology allows for much more efficient computing by centralising storage, memory, processing and bandwidth.

During the awards ceremony held earlier this week in Johannesburg, South Africa, Westcon Africa a value added distributor of unified communications, infrastructure and security solutions with a global network of specialty resellers also scooped the VMware distributor of the year award.

By offering customers the freedom of open standards and interoperability of applications, VMware offers the best choice for organizations looking to expand IT capacity or migrate applications to the public cloud. A common management and infrastructure platform ensures visibility of pooled resources along with the elasticity to provide the highest service-levels for applications.

Through VMware’s broad ecosystem of leading cloud service providers, organizations can get VMware Virtualized™ services ranging from on-demand, pay-as-you go infrastructure to enterprise-class, production-ready offerings.

Instead of spending valuable time managing physical infrastructure or applications, this new approach lets you focus on innovation and delivering value to the business. Once all hardware resources are pooled into virtual building-blocks and service-levels are defined with associated applications, an automation plan based upon business rules and application needs can be deployed.
