Euro Disney reports trimmed loss on rise in visitors

, PARIS, May 10 – Theme park Euro Disney on Tuesday said it had trimmed by 13 percent its net loss in the first half of its 2011 financial year to 82.9 million euros ($119 million) thanks to more visitors and spending at its hotels.

Sales rose in the October-to-March period rose by 7.7 percent to 559.1 million euros, with attendence at the parks increasing by 6.2 percent to 6.9 million people.

The hotel occupancy rate rose to 83.4 percent from 79.6 percent, with average spending per room rising to 200.64 euros from 189.67.

Spending per visitor at the parcs was stable at 43.32 euros on average, against 43.53, which the company attributed to a greater number of Paris area visitors who buy annual passes.

"As we head into our important second semester, we are encouraged to end the first semester with our fourth consecutive quarter of growth in resort revenues," chief executive Philippe Gas said in a statement.

At 1215 GMT the company\’s shares were down 0.84 percent to 9.39 euros while Paris\’ CAC 40 index was up 1.42 percent.
