Taiwan s TransAsia places order for eight jets

PARIS, Nov 16 – Taiwan\’s TransAsia Airways has placed a firm order for two wide-body A330-300 aircraft and six single-aisle A321 jets with a catalogue price of nearly one billion euros, Airbus said on Tuesday.

"The A330s will be the first wide body jets to join the company\’s fleet" said the European plane maker, adding "the aircraft will be principally used on the direct routes linking Taiwan and continental China, as well as new regional lines."

TransAsia Airways has been using Airbus aircraft since 1995. It currently has five mid-size A321 aircraft and two A320s which it uses on its domestic and regional routes, as well as 13 destinations to continental China.

Airbus, a subsidiary of aerospace giant EADS, said last week that it expects to book an overall total of 500 orders this year, well above the previously expected figure of 400, and deliveries should exceed slightly 500, marking a record.

To date Airbus has had over 1,100 firm orders for the different versions of the A330 wide-body jet, with more than 700 aircraft in service of more than 80 airlines.

The plane maker has booked over 6,700 orders for the A320 family of jets with more than 4,400 of the aircraft delivered to more than 310 clients.
