New boss at Wananchi in Kenya

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 22 – Wananchi Group has announced the appointment of Lars Andersen as its Group Chief Executive Officer. Mr Andersen, originally from Norway, has more than 25 years experience in several industries and companies especially in operations, turn-arounds, growth, mergers and acquisitions.

In his new role, Mr Andersen will oversee all Group operations, ensuring that the five business units: Wananchi Programming Group, DTH, Wananchi Kenya, Business and Satellite Services, and Tanzania work as a team to deliver on their business objectives. He has over 20 years experience in the Cable TV Industry and spent 10 years as the CEO of first UPC Norway and then in charge of the whole of Scandinavia for UPC.

“Lars is an engineer by training and holds a Degree in Business Administration. He brings enormous senior management experience to the group that will ensure the group can scale through its ambitious expansion plans over the next 3 years,” said Richard Bell, the CEO of EACP, Wananchi Group’s majority shareholder.

Prior to his appointment at Wananchi Group, Mr Andersen was consulting for the shareholders of NTL inIreland and Karneval Media in the Czech Republic, as well as for Schneider Media in Khazakstan.
 
“I am pleased to welcome Lars Andersen to Wananchi as Group Chief Executive in charge of all Wananchi Operations in the various markets we operate in. The entire team is looking forward to working with him and sharing his vast expertise in management, finance and technology,” said Mr Bell.
 
The incoming CEO said: “I am really excited to take on this new role, and look forward to working with the team as we continue to build on the success of Wananchi Group and our ambitions to offer unrivalled services and products in this region. We want to introduce true Home Entertainment in this region and we are currently strengthening our foundations as we set out to offer true home entertainment to the mass market at affordable costs.”

The Automotive Engineer is also a NPL (Neuro Linguistic Programming) Master Practitioner and has served in the Norwegian Army as a soldier liable for military service.
