Mwebesa lands a new job

NAIROBI, November 28- Chris Mwebesa is the new Managing Director of CfC Stanbic Financial Services. 

Mwebesa, who until last week was the CEO of the Nairobi Stock Exchange, will assume his duties on the January 2 2009. He will take over from Sunil Sanger whose contract comes to an end in December.

“I am very excited at the opportunity to once again be part of the Stanbic family and I look forward to leading the team in providing reliable financial services to the market,” said the newly appointed MD.

In a statement, Mwebesa said the current global economic environment would present an opportunity for their clients to exploit the synergies in the Standard Bank Group.

Before joining the Nairobi Stock Exchange, Mwebesa worked as Executive Director of Stanbic Investment Management Services East Africa (SIMS EA) as well as Head of Business Development for AIG Global Investment Company (East Africa).

Commenting on the appointment CfC Stanbic Financial Services Chairman Kitili Mbathi, said the new MD would to further strength their leadership skills base that is required to operate in the competitive environment.

“Chris’s pedigree in financial services will enable us to deliver to our customer’s expectations and needs. He brings to CfC Stanbic Financial Services a wealth of experience and knowledge of the financial services sector in Kenya and in the world,” the chairman said.

 He thanked Sanger for his time at the company and praised him for steering the company through the challenging time in the financial services industry.  “Sunil will leave the company in a strong position to play a pre-eminent role in the securities industry,” Mbathi said.
