Marseille announce Payet signing

There had been a protracted stalemate over the transfer fee but West Ham finally agreed to Marseille’s final £25m offer on Sunday, after accepting the insertion of a 25 per cent sell-on clause.

PARIS, France, Jan 30- French Ligue 1 club Olympique Marseille have confirmed West Ham rebel Dimitri Payet has signed a four-year contract and will be officially unveiled at a press conference at the Robert Louis-Dreyfus centre – Marseille’s training complex – on Monday.

The 29-year-old will be joined by OM president Jacques-Henri Eyraud and sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta, after costing them Sh3.3bn (£25mn).

The France international smiled as he was met at the airport by fans, who took pictures with the attacker before he made his way to his new club.

Payet signalled his exit from English football by posting on Twitter a photo of the plane that would take him to France, complete with the caption “on rentre a la maison”, which translates as “we’re going home”.

Sky Sports understands he has taken a Sh3.3mn (£25,000)-a-week pay-cut after also rejecting huge offers from China.
