NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 11 – Pauline Njeru clinched a hat-trick of titles as she cruised to victory at the women’s 15KM at this year’s Safaricom Imenti South Road Race that attracted over 700 athletes.
Isaac Kipkoech from Kericho County ruled the corresponding men’s race after crossing the line in 49:22 ahead of second placed Daniel Muteti (49:28) and Henry Kiplagat (50:01) who closed the podium.
Pauline from Embu clocked 57:32 to emerge the best followed closely by Nancy Nzisa from Machakos County with time of 57:37 while Monica from Nyahururu completed the podium after finishing third in 59:34.
Pauline attributed her win to the extensive training regime that she has been undergoing through the last few months.
“I have been training in Rwanda and wanted to use today’s race as a build up to the Angola race which has been cancelled unexpectedly. I am however happy about this win as it puts me in a better position to prepare for upcoming races next year,” she said.
Winners in both categories walked away with cash prizes of Sh100,000 each.
