NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 8- Several football academies based in Nairobi are set to benefit from the knowledge and expertise of former Nigerian midfielder Sunday Oliseh who will conduct a coaching clinic at the Ligi Ndogo grounds on December 21.
The former national team coach and captain who led the Super Eagles to the Olympic gold medal in 1996 in Atlanta will be in Kenya for a three-day tour to help promote the German Bundesliga courtesy of broadcast partners Startimes.
“This initiative is largely driven towards promoting Bundesliga whereas looking at opportunities whereby we can be able to leverage on the success of these European leagues towards developing our home grown talent,” StarTimes Public relations manager Alex Mwaura said while announcing the legend’s visit.
Oliseh’s experience in the German Bundesliga is not doubted having won the league title with Borussia Dortmund in the 2001/2002 season and also played for FC Koln and VfL Bochum.
“It is a huge thing to learn from a player such as Oliseh who has played and coached at the highest level of football. The last time Kanu (Nwankwo) was here the players were really motivated because they resonated with his story. There has been a lot of difference and now that we are priviledged to be part of this again, I am so pleased,” former Bandari and KCB head coach Rishadi Shedu who now heads Star Soccer Academy said.
The clinic will involve several academies from around the city, but Mwaura has disclosed they have been thinking about devolving the same to other counties over the next visits by Bundesliga and African legends.
Oliseh will also be the chief guest during the StarTimes media quiz challenge with the winners set to be rewarded a television set and original autographed Bundesliga balls.
The former Ajax and Juventus man is also expected to join fans during the live screening of the Bundesliga clash between his former club Dortmund and Augsburg.
