NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 30 – Posta Rangers have appointed Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo as the head coach for a period of one year.
While confirming the appointment, club chairman John Tonui said Omollo has a target of steering the club to a top five finish next season when the Kenyan Premier League is expected to have 18 teams.
“We have appointed Sammy Omollo as the head coach and he will be tasked to prepare the team well during pre-season. Our target still remains finishing among the top five in 2017 and we have faith the new coach has experience to make us even win a title,” Tonui told Capital Sport on Wednesday.
Tonui said the immediate former coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno has been appointed the new Technical Director.
However, Omollo told Capital Sport that the deal is yet to be finalized as he is still in talks with the Kenyan Premier League side that finished fourth on 45 points in the just concluded season.
Omollo, who has massive experience in coaching returns to the top flight league for the first time since 2013 when he was managing Sony Sugar.
He led his old club Tusker FC to the 2012 title before moving to the then KPL side Oserian FC the following year.
The 46-year-old decorated coach, who was named the 2011 Coach of the Year at the KPL and Sports Personality of the Year Awards, started his managing career in 2009 at Mahakama FC.
Before joining Posta, Omollo was an assistant coach with Indian side East Bengal where he moved in 2015 after coaching National Super League side Zetech University FC.
He is expected to bolster the Poster Rangers squad that is looking to win first domestic silverware in the top flight league.
