MANCHESTER, United Kingdom, Nov 15 – Bastian Schweinsteiger’s career at Manchester United has not gone according to plan, but he is confident that he has what it takes to break back into the starting line-up.

The midfielder recently returned to training with the first team after manager Jose Mourinho told him to train with the reserves in the summer.

Despite this, it appears that Schweinsteiger’s future with United is nonexistent and it has been reported that he is currently in talks with Major League Soccer (MLS) club Chicago Fire.

While that has yet to be officially confirmed, Schweinsteiger is eager to stay at Old Trafford and continue plying his trade with the Red Devils.

“I’m trying to keep myself fit for the situation in which I am needed,” he said. “Hopefully I will be given a chance. I look forward to training every day, and being able to train with the team.

“I don’t know if I will get a chance, but I hope so. I still feel fit at 32 and certainly want to play more years at the top level, and of course I want to win things.

“We won the FA Cup last year and that was also one of my aims. Of course it would be great to play for United in the Premier League and perhaps win it. If I am needed, I will give everything — I am ready.”

Even though he has yet to represent United in their 2016/17 campaign, Schweinsteiger is keeping a positive frame of mind.

“I’m not one to think of burying my head in the sand,” he said. “My rhythm is good of course it’s different when you play each weekend compared with when you are only training but I enjoy my football.”
