NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 11- Thirty seven year old courier operator Jared Ratemo is the newest millionaire in town after walking away with a Sh19mn sum from the weekend mCHEZA jackpot.

The overly excited Ratemo kept his win a closely guarded secret, perhaps not believing his luck until he got a call from the betting company’s representatives confirming that indeed, his lucky stars over the weekend shone bright enough to make him a multi-millionaire.

“On Sunday, I was left with Sh800 to play for the jackpot. I have some knowledge of how Spanish and Italian leagues play, but one of the games proved challenging. I placed two bets of Sh400 each, one with a draw and another with a home win,” Ratemo explained as he collected his cheque on Tuesday afternoon.

He adds; “I wasn’t sure I had won though, and even when the message came I was filled with both doubt and excitement. I went to bed quietly, waiting for my call in the morning.”

The father of two who has been operating a courier business with his wife for the last four years now hopes to expand the wings of his entrepreneurship courtesy of his fat bank balance including completing a construction he had started back in his home town of Kisii.

“I wish to invest in my wife and children, set up rental houses to keep the money coming. This has indeed changed my life for the better, since I have been relying on loans and the humble income I receive from my delivery contracts,” added Jared.

While congratulating the winner, mCHEZA Chief Executive Officer Peter Karimi expressed commitment that the platform would continue support Jared with financial advice.

“Jared has a good understanding of saving and spending money, as he has already kick-started his plans for making a difference in his family’s life. In our presence are top notch financial counselors who will equip him with the necessary financial management skills to ensure that he is able to get to the next level,” Karimi said.

Meanwhile, the company has announced plans to venture into the Ugandan market after managing to penetrate neighboring Tanzania.
