LONDON, United Kingdom, Oct 10 – Frank Lampard has now decided he wants to become a football coach after initially turning his nose up at the idea, but says he could only manage former club Chelsea.
The 38-year-old, who has been banging in goals for New York City this season, admits that it may be some time before he swaps playing for managing as he still needs to get his coaching badges.
The former West Ham United midfielder, who spent a season with Manchester City after leaving Chelsea, has netted 12 goals in 18 Major League Soccer games this season.
Speaking to Sky Sports’ Soccer AM, Lampard revealed he could see himself in charge of the Blues sometime in the future.
He said: “If I was good enough, if they wanted me and it was the right time.
“As a Chelsea man or not, the job is one of the pinnacles of football, they are one of the top clubs in the world now. And I’m a Chelsea man. I wouldn’t have to move house.
“It might be a different route for me and might take a while but the dream would be to manage Chelsea one day.
“There was a period earlier in my career where I really fancied it, then I thought I don’t fancy the managerial thing.”
He added: “I’m more back onto it but the problem is getting my badges now. And having time to do it when I’m still playing.
“As soon as I finish I would like to take it up and maybe be a manager. It’s hard as I only want the Chelsea job.”
