LONDON , United Kingdom, Sep 3 – Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is facing an unhappy spell on the fringes of the first team after being left out of the club’s Europa League squad.
The former Germany international spurned the chance to depart the club in the recent transfer window, having previously been informed by United boss Jose Mourinho that his first-team chances would be limited in the current campaign.
And it seems Mourinho’s warning was a portent of things to come, with the 32-year-old set to miss out European football in the first half of the season.
While the experienced midfielder won’t be involved, youngsters Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Axel Tuanzebe – both 18 years old – have cracked the nod.
