KISUMU, Kenya, Aug 3 – Champions Passenga will be in desperate search of a single point to progress to the semi finals of the Airtel Rising Stars when they play their last group B match against Laiser Hill at the Moi Stadium Kisumu on Thursday.

Passenga must win this match against last year’s losing finalists lest they crash out after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Green Palms in their second match by the Mombasa representatives.

Laiser mauled Subunley 7-1 in their second match to go top of pool B with six points, two ahead of Passenga who has four but desperately need a point in Thursday’s match to sail to the semis.

Palms have one point from two matches but a 3-0 win over Subuley, the weeping boys of the group will see them book their first semi-final appearance at the national podium.

Shukran Muaramba shocked Passenga when he shook the net at the half hour mark before John Aure levelled the proceedings in the 81st minute.

Laiser, who are already in the last four, will still have to be weary of Aure who is remembered for scoring the winning goal against them in last year’s final.

Suleiman Hussein gave Subuley the lead in the sixth minute before Peter Kinyanjui bagged a brace in 12th and 29th minutes to give Laiser a 2-0 lead at the break.

Kinyanjui, who scored six goals in this match, was on the break again when he hit the back of the net four times before Richard Odanda sealed Laiser’s rout with a last minute goal in 89th minute.

Hosts Nyakacha are also facing the same predicament in the girls category where they need at least a draw against Nginda who has six points.

Nyakach drew 1-1 with Olympic, who has one point from two matches. A loss for Nyakach and a win for Olympic will see the hosts, who started the games on a high note having crashed Kirigara 4-0; miss out on the semi-final.

Olympic, who will play Kirigara though need four goals in this clash to dislodged Nyakach should they lose to group leaders.
