NAIROBI, Kenya, July 27 – The absence of Khalid Aucho felt in the Gor Mahia midfield might be forgotten after new signing Crispin Odula received his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) to be eligible to feature for the champions.
Since Ugandan international Aucho departed for Scottish side Aberdeen F.C, Gor have struggled to find the rhythm in the midfield as they managed to pick two wins in four matches.
Odula has been training with the club after signing from Finish side AC Oulu and his availability will come as a sigh of relief to the K’Ogalo fraternity as they eye a historic fourth Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title in a row.
“We were waiting for his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and clearance before he gets the chance to play for us. I am glad he has been cleared and can now play for Gor Mahia,” Ngala told Gor Mahia official website.
“Odula will now be available for selection and, who knows, if the coach deems him fit, he will play this weekend, but that is the decision left for the technical bench. He has been training with the team; I do not think he will have problems to fit in.”
As a replacement for Aucho, he will add the much needed steel to the midfield and free up Francis Kahata to focus on play-making.
Odula, 29, is a vastly experienced player having played in the KPL since 2006 as well as in Tanzania and in Finland.
His experience will come in handy during the 2016 campaign which promises to be a tense and tight contest.
Inexperienced players struggle to handle the pressure that comes with a tense league race that sees Gor work hard to reclaim the top spot as they sit second on 34 points, three behind leaders Tusker FC.
Odula will also be able to impart his experience to the younger members of the core like Ernest Wendo and Amos Nondi.
