UNITED KINGDOM, July 23 – Manchester United and Adidas have officially launched their new home kit for the upcoming Premier League season with inspiration dating back to the 1800’s.
The 2016/17 kit is based on the Newton Heath Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Football Club design, with a two-tone red split, as the brand looks to tap into the Red Devils’ rich history.
According to a statement released on the club’s website, the design was inspired by the following; “The worker bee which appears in the crest and originates from the Industrial Revolution, in which Manchester played a significant role.
“The strong work ethic of the city is also part of the clubs DNA, instilled in the players whenever they pull on the red shirt and represent the club.”
The new kit is set to be launched during their tour of China on Saturday afternoon in the Adidas Republic of Sports in Shanghai, and will be worn by Jose Mourinho’s men for the first time when they take on fierce rivals Manchester City in Beijing on Monday.
