Machakos, Kenya, July 3 – New signing Hashim Sempala impressed as Tusker FC reclaimed the top spot after humbling Posta Rangers 1-0 in a Kenyan Premier League encounter played at the Kenyatta Stadium on Sunday.
Winger Noah Wafula was on target after nodding home in the 18th minute to see the Brewers start the second leg on a high, sitting at the summit on 32 points, two ahead of close challengers Mathare United who silenced Ulinzi Stars 1-0 on Saturday.
It was a fairly balanced first-half with Tusker having five attempts on goal against Ranger’s four but it was the Brewers who maximized their only shot on target that resulted to a goal.
Signed from Bidco Limited Uganda, Sempala stamped his authority in the Tusker midfield as he provided a long range defence splitting pass to Michael Khamati, who calmly did well to beat on-rushing Posta keeper Patrick Matasi before cutting in for Wafula to head home.
Khamati could have added the second but a strong Posta back-line was solid led by Jockins Atudo, who shut down the speedy Tusker wingers as the Paul Nkata charges headed to the dressing room leading 1-0 at the break.
Returning for the last period, Tusker squandered an opportunity to double the lead after Luis Tera saw his 56th minute penalty saved by Matasi after Salim Abdala had elbowed Khamati in the box.
Tusker’s dominance in the midfield went on with Posta continuing committing mistakes to enable the visitors play into their hands.
Posta last attempts saw Calvin Odongo and Titus Achesa being introduced in an attempt to salvage a point but the Brewers proved a hard nut to crack to claim maximum points and return at the top.
