NAIROBI, Kenya, May 27 – Kenya’s 2015 world champion Julius Yego and his Czech predecessor Vitezslav Vesely will be part of an outstanding javelin competition at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Stockholm June 16.
Yego and his sometime training partner, Egypt’s IAAF World Championships Beijing 2015 silver medallist Ihab Abdelrahman – they have both been coached by Petteri Piironen at the famous Kuortane Olympic Training Centre in Finland – will be joined in the Swedish capital by Germany’s Thomas Rohler, who was fourth in Beijing.
Rohler is in good form at the moment and won at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Shanghai two weeks ago before throwing a world-leading 87.37m in Ostrava last Friday.
Also in Stockholm will be the new Czech star, Jakub Vadlejch. Both he and Vesely are coached by the javelin great and world record holder Jan Zelezny.
Japan’s 2015 world championships finalist Ryohei Arai and top local thrower Kim Amb are also in the field.
The stadium record stands at 89.78m, set by Norway’s recently-retired two-time Olympic champion Andreas Thorkildsen 10 years ago, but there are quite hopes that the famous 1912 Olympic stadium could see its first 90-metre throw in a few weeks’ time.
