Malkia Strikers to camp in Buenos Aires ahead of Grand Prix

ARGENTINA, May 25- The national women volleyball team will camp in Buenos Aires, Argentina for four days before departing for Tucuman to compete at the Group Two Grand Prix matches which serves off on June 4.

While in Buenos Aires, Malkia Strikers will play their hosts Argentina in a friendly match with the South Americans using the match to prepare for the Olympic Games as well as the Grand Prix.

The two will meet competitively in both legs of the Grand Prix in Argentina and Poland.

The team arrived in Buenos Aires on Tuesday morning from Puerto Rico via Miami and was welcomed by the Argentine Volleyball Federation officials.

The Kenyan team took a day off as the players recovered from the intense World Olympic Qualifiers in addition to the many hours of traveling from Puerto Rico to Miami (3hrs) and later to Buenos Aires (8 hours).

“We have been received well and we hope to use this time to recover well and prepare adequately for the task ahead.” team manager Martin Kimondo said.

After winning Group Three of the Grand Prix last year, Kenya will make its debut in Group two where they expect stiff competition.

The African Queens will face hosts Argentina, Bulgaria and Dominican Republic on June 4 and 5 before travelling to Poland where they play Puerto Rico for a second time, hosts Poland and Argentina, for the second time as well.

Head coach David Lung’aho, who targets a top six finish, will be hoping the girls do better in Argentina and Poland after the disappointment of failing to clinch and Olympic ticket in Puerto Rico.
