LAUSANNE, March 3 – Disgraced former FIFA president Sepp Blatter’s salary will be revealed later this month, his spokesman said on Wednesday.
“Mr. Blatter’s income will be known end of March,” Klaus Stoehlker, Blatter’s spokesman, told AFP in an email.
Blatter, who is serving a six-year ban from football, was replaced by Gianni Infantino last week as the head of world football’s governing body, ending his 18-year reign.
However, the 79-year-old Swiss, who ascended to FIFA’s top job in 1998, had never revealed his salary, with some sources estimating he received between 5 and 10 million Swiss francs (4.5 and 9.1 million euros) per year.
But the figure should be disclosed in FIFA’s financial report for 2015, according to a source close to the organisation.
Blatter was re-elected for a fifth term as president of world football’s governing body last May, but days later he called for a fresh election because he did not feel he had “a mandate from the entire world of football”.
In October, Blatter and fallen UEFA president Michel Platini were both provisionally banned over a two million dollar payment made by FIFA to Platini, with the pair then slapped with eight-year bans by a FIFA ethics court in December, a suspension that was reduced to six years last week.
FIFA recently approved major reforms as part of an effort to end the culture of corruption that has plagued its governing body for years, notably introducing a 12-year term limit for the president and other top officials, whose salaries will also be made public.
