Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara has poured cold water on rumours suggesting he will follow Pep Guardiola to Manchester City in the off-season.

Guardiola announced in December he was leaving Bayern at the end of the current campaign, before City confirmed at the start of this month that the Spaniard had agreed to become their new manager.

Thiago, who signed a contract extension at the Allianz Arena in August last year, has been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium, having joined Guardiola in Munich from Barcelona in 2013.

But the 24-year-old insists he remains fully committed to the Bavarian giants, who are seeking their third successive Bundesliga title this season.

“There are always a lot of rumours. It’s a fact that Guardiola is joining Manchester City and we have to respect that,” the Spain international told Bild.

“But there is no truth in the rumours saying I will follow him. I would not have signed a new contract had I wanted to leave the club. I extended my contract for a reason.”
