NAIROBI, February 16- The national women’s volleyball team qualified to play at the 2016 World Olympic Qualifier after seeing off perennial rivals Algeria 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 26-24) to finish third at the Africa Qualifier in Yaounde, Cameroon on Tuesday.
The Malkia Strikers who missed the automatic qualification after going down 3-2 to Egypt in the semi-finals, will meet teams from South America (Colombia) and NORCECA (Puerto Rico) as they seek to book a ticket to the August Rio De Janeiro Summer Games for the first time since 2004.
Both teams played a depressive game after they failed to progress to the final, but the African Queens were more insisted to win.
Skipper Mercy Moim led the Kenyan scorers with seven points followed by Kibor Chelagat who contributed six points.
Promising right attacker Yasmine Abdelrrahim led the losers with 11 points followed by captain Safia Boukhima who scored eight.
Kenya dominated the net action through their better blocking besides using the spike service to disturb the Algerians.
