According to reports in the British press, Jose Mourinho has told friends that he will definitely be moving to Manchester United in the off-season.
The former Chelsea boss has been heavily linked as a replacement for the under pressure Louis van Gaal, with the Red Devils forced to reject reports that they had entered into negotiations with Mourinho’s representatives.
However, it appears that the Portuguese is very confident that he will be making himself comfortable at Old Trafford in the summer.
The Telegraph have quoted a source as saying: “Mourinho’s going to Manchester United. It’s a done deal. Chelsea is the only big job up for grabs.”
The report comes after Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was linked with a move to United earlier in the week.
The constant speculation has irked Van Gaal, with the Dutchman constantly forced to defend his position and deflect questions about his future. Last week the former Netherlands boss accused reporters of making up reports that he was going to be sacked.
He told one journalist: “Why do the club have to deny it when you are creating stories? Okay, okay, so you haven’t spoken to Ed Woodward or the Glazers, so you are inventing this story. I don’t have to answer this question.
“Maybe I say you are getting the sack tomorrow. What is your name? Then I can announce the name also.”
United currently sit in fifth spot on the Premier League standings, six points behind fourth-placed Manchester City in the final Champions League berth. Failure to qualify for Europe’s premier club competition is likely to result in Van Gaal being relieved of his duties.
