Chelsea, West Ham fined over player disorder

Chelsea captain John Terry (L) approaches ref Jon Moss to dispute Nemanja Matic’s first-half dismissal at West Ham

LONDON, November 10 – Chelsea and West Ham United have been fined £50,000 (Sh7.7m) and £40,000 (Sh6.1m) respectively after admitting misconduct charges over last month’s encounter at Upton Park, the Football Association announced on Tuesday.

Both clubs admitted to having failed to ensure that their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during West Ham’s 2-1 Premier League win on October 24.

Players from both sides harangued referee Jon Moss following a foul on Diafra Sakho by Nemanja Matic in the 44th minute that saw the Chelsea midfielder sent off.

“Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing, West Ham United and Chelsea have been fined £40,000 and £50,000 respectively after both clubs admitted an FA misconduct charge,” the FA said in a statement.

“The charge was for failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the fixture between the two sides on October 24, 2015.

“Both clubs were also severely warned as to their future conduct.”

Visiting manager Jose Mourinho and his assistant Silvino Louro were also sent to the stands for protesting about Matic’s dismissal.

Mourinho had already been hit with a misconduct charge over his conduct during the game, which saw him banned from the stadium for Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat at Stoke City last Saturday.
