LONDON, October 14- Harry Redknapp has claimed that former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti was offered the Liverpool job, but the Italian wasn’t interested.
The Reds have since replaced Brendan Rodgers with former BVB Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp, but they first looked to the 56-year-old, who has been out of a job since leaving Real Madrid in May.
“I have heard from good sources that [Ancelotti] was offered the Liverpool job,” the former Spurs and QPR manager told TalkSport. “I don’t think [he wanted it]. They spoke to him at some stage.
“Ancelotti’s had a little break from the football scene already and obviously feels he’s ready to come back in again. It’s got to be a big club for him, he’s a manager of Champions League clubs so he’s not going to take any job.
“There are only five or six jobs he could take in the Premier League, so it’s very interesting to see what he’s got in mind.”
The former Juventus, Milan and PSG boss has already said that he would like a return to the Premier League next year, but Redknapp thinks that Liverpool have chosen well with Klopp and expects the German to be a good fit at Anfield.
“I do like the look of Klopp, he’s a good appointment,” he added. “He’s looks bright, with great enthusiasm and he looks like he could be a really good addition to the Premier League. I’m looking forward to watching Liverpool play over the next few years.”
