BERLIN, October 13- With 10 million followers, Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil is the world champions’ most popular footballer on social media platform Twitter.
“You guys are simply amazing! Thank u for your unbelievable support – during both good times and bad. #10MioFollowers,” tweeted the attacking midfielder after passing the 10 million followers milestone.
Ozil is by some distance the most popular of Germany’s World Cup winners on Twitter with goalkeeper Manuel Neuer trailing on an otherwise impressive 3.2 million followers.
The former Bayern Munich and Real Madrid star has more followers than both his club Arsenal (6.4m) and the German national team (1.8m) combined.
Globally, he is the 11th most popular athlete on Twitter behind Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo (38.2m) and basketball icon LeBron James (24.3m).
