Man City’s Aguero injured on Argentina duty

SERGIO AGUERO

Aguero is carried off the pitch in Buenos Aires with a hamstring injury

LONDON, October 9 – Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero sustained an injury to his left hamstring during Argentina’s 2-0 loss to Ecuador in World Cup qualifying, the Premier League club confirmed on Friday.

“Sergio Aguero lasted just 22 minutes of Argentina’s opening World Cup qualifier against Ecuador,” City said in a statement on their website.

“The City striker, who scored five goals in his last game against Newcastle, pulled up holding his left hamstring while chasing a long ball downfield.”

Aguero, 27, was stretchered off mid-way through the first half of Thursday’s game in Buenos Aires and is set to miss Argentina’s next match away to Paraguay on Tuesday.

He is also a doubt for City’s next Premier League game at home to Bournemouth on October 17.

Aguero scored five goals on his last appearance for City in a 6-1 hammering of Newcastle United, becoming the fifth player to score five goals in one game since the Premier League was launched in 1992.
