NAIROBI, June 9- Titleholders Sofapaka FC will launch their defence against Kenya Premier League (KPL) strugglers, Nakuru All Stars whilst Gor Mahia have a date against minnows Langata Gremio following the 2015 GOtv Shield first-round draw conducted Tuesday in Nairobi.

KPL titans AFC Leopards and UIinzi Stars will face Ligi Ndogo and Shabana FC in that order in the domestic cup competition where 64 teams entered the pot with semi finalists from last year seeded.

Leopards, Posta Rangers and Western Kenya Sugar were the other seeded sides.

“We want fairness and embracing of Fifa rules to the letter since we are committed to make this event a great success,” GOtv Kenya General Manager, Felix Kyeng, said during the draw held at Nairobi’s Jamhuri Park Local Productions Limited studios in front of club representatives.

SuperSport General Manager, Auka Gacheo added, “It’s been a great journey promoting Kenyan football. SuperSport is proud of the growth of football in Kenya and being associated with both FKF and KPL.”

Winners will represent the country at next year’s CAF Confederations Cup with action kicking-off this weekend on Saturday and Sunday in various venues countrywide.

The draw initially scheduled for June 3 was finally held after Football Kenya Federation (FKF) resolved the technical hitches that saw the deferment of the exercise.

FKF boss Sam Nyamweya and KPL chief, Sam Oguda and SuperSport Marketing Manager, Japheth Akhulia who sponsors Gor’s opponents Langata Gremio among other officials were present at the function.
