Guardiola snaps over Ribery return

GUARDIOLA-HIDEBERLIN, April 8- Bayern Munich’s Pep Guardiola lost his usual composure when asked about France winger Franck Ribery’s possible return from an ankle injury as their Champions League quarter-final with FC Porto looms.

Ribery injured his right ankle in Bayern’s 7-0 drubbing of Shakhtar Donetsk in the last 16 of the Champions League on March 11 and was initially expected to be out for only three days.

But Guardiola was short with reporters when they asked when Ribery is expected to return, ahead of Bayern’s German Cup quarter-final at Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday.

“I don’t know. Asks the doctors. I don’t know when he will come back,” snapped the Spaniard.

Despite their huge, star-studded squad, Bayern have mounting injury problems with left-back David Alaba, right winger Arjen Robben and left winger Ribery all out for the forseeable future.

“I can’t play at the moment,” Ribery simply told broadcaster Sport1 on Monday.

Bayern’s Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger will also miss their cup clash at Leverkusen with an ankle injury suffered in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Dortmund, but should be available for the weekend.

The Bavarian giants host mid-table Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Saturday before the first-leg away to FC Porto in the Champions League with the return leg in Munich on April 21.
