STURRIDGE-DORTMUNDLiverpool are expected to be without main striker Daniel Sturridge for the remainder of 2014 after confirming he has suffered a fresh thigh injury.

The England international has spent the last two months on the sidelines, having twice seen proposed comebacks thwarted by various injuries.

The latest of those saw the 25-year-old aggravate his thigh strain, which was confirmed by scans on Wednesday, and although an exact timeline has yet to be laid out for his return, reports suggest he is facing another six weeks out.

“Liverpool Football Club today confirmed scans have revealed Daniel Sturridge has sustained a new thigh injury,” read a statement from the club.

“The player will remain unavailable for selection but will be monitored and assessed during his recovery.”
