Fan stabbed to death in Awendo

BRAZIL-SADKISUMU, Kenya, July 5 – An argument over Friday’s World Cup quarterfinal between Brazil and Colombia turned tragic when a football fan was stabbed to death in Awendo, Migori County.

His assailant was then lynched by irate members of the public as local police moved in to investigate.

Awendo police boss, Kipsang Chengach, confirmed a 25 year-old man was stabbed to death with a knife at a local pub in the town after a row erupted during the game where the hosts beat Colombia 2-1 to make the semis.

Chengach added the suspect fled the scene but was tracked down eight hours after committing the murder and was lynched.

An eye witness Philip Odhiambo says the deceased was killed outside the bar after the end of a match.

He says the two were seen quarrelling inside the bar before they left.

Odhiambo is appealing for more security personnel to patrol the town during the ongoing matches that stretch up to late in the night.

The two bodies were taken to a local mortuary pending post mortem examinations results.
