Semenya now quashes wedding talk

SEMENYA-2JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, May 15- Caster Semeya dispelled any rumours of an impending engagement to fellow athlete, Violet Ledile Raseboya, as reported earlier this week.

“There is no wedding. Don’t believe the rumours you read in the news.”

Semenya would not confirm reports of lobola being paid to the family of Raseboya or the amount of R25000 reported to have been offered by her family for the right to marry her long-time partner Raseboya.

Instead the Olympic silver medalist seemed focused on her upcoming season, which she is busy preparing for.

“Right now I am very focused on my studies and athletics, there is nothing else going on.”

Under the continued tutelage of coach Maria Mutola, Semenya claims that she is injury free and that her training is going well.

Semenya plans to run three to four races on the IAAF Diamond Leaguet in Europe but her main aim for this season is the upcoming Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow in July this year.

“That is the big one. The Commonwealth Games are what we are working toward and where we want to succeed.”

It seems there won’t be any wedding bells anytime soon.

On Sunday, the Sun revealed that Semenya has sent her elders to Violet’s family in Polokwane.

Sources revealed that her relatives went to visit Violet’s family to negotiate lobola – as both athletes wanted to settle down. It is understood they went to Violet’s family two weeks ago.

“Caster’s dad, ntate Jacob Semenya, was accompanied by other family members to negotiate lobola. Caster had made her intentions clear that she wanted to take Violet as her other half. “Both families were happy to negotiate lobola and Caster’s family paid R25 000 to have Violet as their makoti,” said an insider.
