Barca make City’s Aguero top target

SERGIO-AGUERO-CLLONDON, England, March 20- Barcelona have reportedly named Manchester City superstar Sergio Aguero as their number-one transfer target come the end of the current season.

The Argentina international has seen his 2013/14 campaign derailed by a series of injuries, making just 17 Premier League appearances, although his goal return remains one of the best in Europe, having netted 15 goals in that time.

Primera Liga champions Barca are now believed to be readying a mega-money bid for the striker, who could be looking for a way out of the Etihad Stadium.

Fueling those claims is the fact City once again came up short in the Champions League, having gone down 4-1 on aggregate against the Catalan giants in the last-16 of the competition, the furthest the club have made it in their three attempts – the previous two having ended at the group stages.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men also stumbled in the FA Cup after losing their quarter-final against holders Wigan, and while they have already lifted silverware this term after seeing off Sunderland in the Capital One Cup final, it was arguably the title lowest down on the side’s wishlist.

However, the Spanish giants would still need to shell out a considerable amount of money for Aguero, who only last year signed a one-year extension to his current deal at City, keeping him in Manchester until 2017.
