Rooney: Suarez must be stopped

SUAREZ-DOWNLONDON, England, March 15- Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney knows that the Red Devils will struggle against Liverpool on Sunday if they can’t contain Luis Suarez.

Suarez has been in spectacular form this term, banging in 24 goals and forming a lethal pairing up front with Daniel Sturridge.

The Reds have been devastating in attack, finding the back of the net 73 times in the league this term, some way ahead of the 46 scored by United. Indeed, Liverpool have scored more goals in the first-half of their matches, 47, then the defending league champions have managed in total.

With this in mind, Rooney is all too well aware that United need to put the brakes on Suarez when the two teams meet at Old Trafford.

“Suarez, for me, is up there with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the best players in the world,” the United striker told MUTV of the Uruguayan.

“He has been that good and the two of them together have been in great form this season. We will have to do everything we can to stop them on Sunday.

“I think they are both fantastic players and obviously it is good to see Sturridge doing well because he has never really had a chance at his previous clubs,” Rooney added.

“Brendan Rodgers has given him a chance and he has taken it with both hands. That is good for England as well.”
