LONDON, England, January 21- Santi Cazorla has apologised for any offence caused after a picture circulated on Twitter of him holding a sign insulting club rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The controversy started due to an image of Cazorla holding a sign with a French fan and former Arsenal player Robert Pires which read: “What do we think of Tottenham? S—. And what do we think s—? Tottenham.”
The picture was posted on Twitter and was retweeted more than 1,000 times.
The Daily Telegraph reports that Arsenal “reminded Santi Cazorla of his club responsibilities” following the controversy, although the Spain international tweeted to say that he had been unaware of what was written on the sign.
This is not the first time this season an Arsenal player has courted controversy by publicly mocking Tottenham fans.
Theo Walcott made a “2-0” gesture to Spurs fans as he was carried off during the North London derby in the FA Cup earlier this month, while Wojciech Szczesny posted a gloating message after the derby win in September and then, during Spurs’ 6-0 defeat at Manchester City, posted on Facebook: “Wonderful scenes at The Etihad…”
