NAIROBI, Kenya, November 29 – The Sports Stadia Management Board (SSMB) has awarded mobile provider Safaricom the naming rights for the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani, in a two year deal worth Sh55m (USD634,371.40).
The stadium will be known as Safaricom Stadium Kasarani-Home of Heroes while the adjacent Indoor Arena will be branded the Safaricom Indoor Arena.
As part of the contract, Safaricom will refurbish the dressing rooms, some corporate suites and other improvements.
The maintenance and management of the stadium will still be under the supervision of SSMB.
“Safaricom becomes the first local corporate to be awarded the naming and branding rights for the stadium.
“This is in line with our strategic direction to work with corporates in order to improve and develop sports facilities across the country,” said the SSMB Public Relations Officer Rakki Asman.
“Through this partnership, our aim is to help raise the country’s competitive edge as Kenya bids to host major continental and international sports tournaments,” Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore explained on the partnership.
The new branded stadium that has a seating capacity of 60,000, will be unveiled officially next week in an event that will be graced by Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Arts and Culture Dr. Hassan Wario and senior stakeholders in the sports sector.
During the event, the SSMB team and Safaricom will showcase the refurbished and upgraded dressing rooms among other features that have been improved at the stadium.
