NAIROBI, Kenya, October 18- For the sixth year in a row, SuperSport and MultiChoice have today announced a Sh1.5m boost to this year’s Safaricom Sports Personality of the Year Awards (SOYA).
The deal will see organisers for the December 10 gala night receive the sponsorship in cash with SuperSport pledging to additionally foot production costs for the 10th edition of the annual gathering of Kenya’s finest performers in sport.
In his remarks, event patron, former World marathon record holder and International Olympics Committee Member, Paul Tergat outlined that the sponsorship boost was timely for both parties.
“SOYA shares a lot in common with SuperSport and MultiChoice, whether you are talking of objectives or aspirations. We all want to see sports and our sports people rise to new heights in Kenya and Africa as a whole”.
“The entry of DStv & lately GOtv has seen tremendous rise in Kenya’s sports personalities, especially the youth, passion for sports at all levels- national and even global,” he underscored.
“SOYA celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and it is not difficult to identify how much contribution it has brought into our sporting scene- whether you are looking at motivation of sportsmen and women or adding glamour through special awards gala, not to forget enhancing linkages between sports and corporate entities like SuperSport and MultiChoice Kenya,” Tergat added.
“SuperSport has also committed to assist with pre-production work on behalf of SOYA and will also provide nomination videos. We will also produce a highlights program of the gala that will be available on SuperSport channels a week after the Awards ceremony,” said SuperSport East Africa General Manger, Auka Gecheo.
